The SmartCode family (910, 914, 916) is the longtime workhorse; the 916 adds Z-Wave, but all three share the same footprint and backset options (2-3/8-inch or 2-3/4-inch).

Here’s the gotcha we see weekly in Maryland: Kwikset’s “SmartKey” cylinder and their smart lock electronics are separate systems. A door prepped for traditional SmartKey doesn’t mean the wire routing and interior chassis will clear your existing trim without modification. • The lock reverts to “factory default” on its own. The onboard memory capacitor is bleeding voltage, usually from age or from a power surge on a home with older wiring. This one won’t fix itself.
